    Hi Jamie,
Don't know if this applies to your vehicle but I had a Peugeot 806 diesel in for loads of work a while ago and had the stop light appear on the dash after fitting a new alternator and various other parts. After going over everything I had done it turned out to be something so stupid I'm almost embarrassed to say.

It was because the drivers door was open when I started the engine up!

I switched off the engine when the STOP! light stayed on a few seconds and went over all that I had done.
If only I had sat into the car and closed the door it wouldn't have shown up but I had the door wide open and just reached in to turn the key. I found out after working on another 806 that there should have been a warning light to show a door open as well on the instrument cluster but I guess that bulb had blown in the past.

Not sure if your 306 works this way or not. Otherwise check all the fluid levels and battery charge rate etc. If all ok then I would be thinking that something could be damaged from running with a bad earth and instead found the earth path through some circuit that couldn't take it. I think someone posted ages ago about a check module for that stop light.

    Hope you get it sorted,
    Liam
