    Thanks for all your replies.

Engine now starts everytime - fault will not happen and I am waiting for it to return!

Have carried out extensive wiring checks on ECU and control relay, but no faults found.

Just to recap, unable to get comm's when vehicle will not start, but have comm's when vehicle starts.

Able to get comms with ABS. Initially suspected imobilizer fault. Now not sure.

When vehicle fails to start, pin 7 on ECU to pin 7 on control relay, has battery voltage with ignition on. When engine cranked, pin 7 is earthed - closing control unit, thus power to fuel pump and ignition. Engine will start.

Removed ignition cowl and unplugged coil reader. Cranked engine - non start. Refit plug, engine starts. Now vehicle runs without coil reader.

Have I inadvertedly created a default, or is this just a coincidence?

Removed both imbolizer plugs, and vehicle starts.

Refit plugs. Turn on ignition, alarm sounds, crank engine and it starts.

Can anyone tell me is the earth on pin 7 controlled within ECU?

Either I have inadvertently switched off imob or it has been switched off prior to fault.

If imobilizer has never worked, then possible internal ECU fault.

    Any advice please?
