I guess I will never do another one of these but for my own records I have made up a set of instructions for this awkward job and posting it may help someone in the future.

    Porsche Boxter Ign Switch Replacement

.Remove o/s/f light switch pull knob by pushing up small brass tongue under knob when pulled out of switch. Remove hidden torque screw under light knob.
.Pull o/s/f Air vent inc light switch off clips beware of small air vent flaps dropping out remove air vent ducting unit behind facia flaps.
.Prise off trim to ign. Switch surround.
.Remove torque screws from o/s/f top speaker & remove speaker unit.
.Gain further access by removing air bag & steering wheel, strip cowling & remove light & wiper control switches.
.Through o/s/f air vent access remove torque screw & bracket from ignition switch
.Through speaker hole & column access using long quarter drive ext & 10mm socket remove bolt & nut locking switch assy. to steering column
.With key in position 1 position press up locking pin near column end through hole under switch & using screwdriver prise out locking barrel & switch assy. Care as wiring and key control unit still attached to barrel assy. Drop lock assy. down under lower dash panel & remove lock control module & wiring.
.To remove key barrel to swap over to new lock assy. Looking end on to key barrel in silver key insert, note a very small indent in outer circumference of lock barrel. Insert & turn key to position 1. Using a small locking pin for t/belt tensioner push down beside key in small hole in end of silver barrel to engage with small locking quadrant to release barrel. This is the most difficult job getting pin to align with quadrant hole hidden inside the barrel to disengage the key barrel. You may have to resort to old fashioned hacksaw and remove end of barrel and slice down remaining ring & split in two to release barrel. First time job allow approx 3.5 hrs.
