THIS MAY HELP SOMEBODY IN THE FUTURE Worked on this Jag Estate today. This has rear window on the tailgate and a switch under the wiper mount which allows you to pop open the window with the vehicle unlocked. This allows you to put stuff into boot without opening the tailgate (pretty useless really). The switch is supposed to be a sealed membrane type switch but unfortunately water fills the switch housing and then corrodes the copper contact inside the switch causing random effects.  This customer would have the alarm going off when parked up as result of the window popping open . Also the window would almost always pop open after starting the engine. Very annoying... Problem here was the owner had disconnected the wiring loom to the switch (to stop alarm issues) and closed the glass window, so getting to the switch to replace it was a challenge. In the end managed to pry off the main plastic cover of the tailgate. First unclip and pull away central plastic section to reveal 4 screws. Then pull off main plastic section which is held by several panel clips . Then you will have to force the final two plastic blue clips out because the screws are only accessable if the glass is open (stupid design). Be brave and lever away between plastic cover and fitting . Lucky for me nothing broke. This then finally gives access to the solenoid mounted on the wiper motor inside the tailgate. If you then pull off solenoid connecor and apply power to the two outermost pins on the 4-pin connector , by applying the power you can then fire the solenoid to release the locked glass.Try one way and then the other until solenoid releases the catch. Then its downhill to open up the wiper/ switch mechanism on the glass section itself to replace the switch unit. I paid £68 inc VAT for the switch from dealer/ Retails £85 inc VAT. George |
