Sorry for not posting the fix, forgot all about it,
But thanks for reminding me just realised body shop have not yet paid for this job.

Like mark said first check fuses in boot near battery.

If fuses OK, then look at the wiring looms for both rear lamp units, somewhere in the loom close to the lamp units you will see a section of grey foam, peel away the grey foam to expose the rear light diodes.
These can both be located on one side, or may be located one on either side. test the diodes, or swap one for the other working lamp should then have the fault.

if diodes test OK then the fault is most likely going to be the rear electronic module located in the o/s rear wing area, this module switches the earths to the rear lights to bring them on. Like i said in my earlier post the whole of the rear light board is kept live and then the inner terminal of the bulb switched to earth depending on what lights you have enabled(apart from fog that switches outer part of bulb to earth.
don't bother trying to wire the good output to the bad side at the module to feed both lights, it will work at the lights but displays faults for both rear lights on dashboard.

The control module says on it "this is a programmable part"
but you wont need to do any programming.
you can buy new and just fit, i think around £250+
or you can buy secondhand, if you buy secondhand you will have to make sure that the numbers on the unit match exactly. number will be something like this XW4T-13B524-BC

    hope this helps
