VW Bora 2004 - Alarm ultrasonics not working #Archived Message

Does anyone know of a way to check the ultrasonics on factory alarm without vw equipment im not sure how they work, customer says they automatically come on when car is locked and can be turned of if you leave animals etc in car, The car was locked last night and broken into through window and alarm didn't go off
