While I too am concerned by this latest price hike and Am also considering my position as a GGS member I maintain that the sceme is, in essence, a good one. Despite it being run by a company with a vested interest. At the end of the day - is this any different from the other voluntary codes available?

The GGS code of conduct is an excellent benchmark to set for your business (not withstanding the '..provide products to remove contamination.' clause).

The problem with the scheme is the lack of Auditing. Yes - if you use the products and fit certain criteria you can join the scheme but I think it's fair to say that if your garage recieves consistently poor feedback, or generates complaints to the GGS administration, it would be investigated and possibly removed from the scheme. A couple of places local to me were when the scheme was finding its feet.

I agree with the comments made on the requirement to use the products on every service. I have told my rep that I will not make it mandatory but will not use the GGS paperwork if the cutomer declines. I have explained that if that is not good enough then.. tough! Not had any problems so far.

But you are right - this price increase is a step too far.
