    I hate these things!
The radio remote only operates the alarm/ central locking, The immo is handled by a transponder system in these keys and as Steve says an autolocksmith can clone it IF some temporary life can be got out of it to read the code. The part that seems to fail is the long thin pick-up coil in the corner of the circuit board. It may be worth a check with a good magnifier to see if the solder joints have gone dry as I have got several of these going with a touch of the iron. if you measure it with a digital multimeter you will find if it has gone open circuit, which is the other way they fail.
If you are stuck with no key to clone then it is a new one programmed "en France", takes 10 days costs £87+vat, extra for the blade, and sometimes can be initialised to the car without diag equipment but don't hold your breath. If it won't program I know multiscan will do it as I did one last month.
    Enjoy.
    HTH Shaun
