Hi Keith , haven't done any with electronic handbrake but found this if any use.

On vehicles that are fitted with the electronic parking brake system which now does not use any parking brake cables, the servicing of the rear brake system, including replacement of the rear brake pads, can only be carried out with the use of diagnostic equipment.

The diagnostic equipment is used to put the electronic parking brake system control module into a “service mode” where the motors are automatically retracted to allow the rear brake pads to be safely removed.

Then on fitment of new brake pads, the diagnostic equipment is used again to put the electronic parking brake into normal operating mode and the electronic parking brake system control module will operate the motors to correctly position the new pads to the brake disk for correct operation of both normal brake operation and parking brake operation.
