Re Volvo 440 1.7 and renault traffic. 1.7 OHC engine Archived Message

I have a customer with a renault traffic based camper (in good condition too) who failed to stop after suffering a split water hose (You know, its only another mile or so to get home, ill get there if i take it easy!)

Result 2 melted pistons! and badly scored bores! (the relevent areas on the cylinder head look like somebody has polished them with a shotgun!)

Now, neither VEGE or Ivor Searle have any exchange engines for this. Rebuilding this one is likly to be expensive.

However I have a Volvo 440 (injected) available as a good runner. Is there any reason why I cannot use the volvo block/cylinder head combo with all the injection system etc removed as a replacement for the renault carb engine (IE will the manifollds fit etc etc)

Also, can the volvo engine be removed from above, or is it one of those cars that has to be jacked up to waist hight to get the engine out from underneith.

    Paul
