    The clue is in the code. It is always a good idea to look at the code setting criteria. In the case of the VAG group there is a plethora of info online. Google works well for VAG codes.

    << the code that keeps popin up is 16490 for the map >> This code is not just a generic MAP code. It is set due to an implausible map signal. If that code sets when the symptoms manifest themselves then that would suggest a manifold vacuum problem rather than a map sensor fault. The cause could well be the chain, or anything that will effect manifold vac.
