    Hi Stephen, Check the rain sensor in the windscreen at the top middle to see if it looks delaminated from the screen or seems to have an air bubble in the sensor , if so the rain sensor ( part of the windscreen ) is faulty and will cause both the problems you are having,both x5 and z4s are common for this. You could also check if the car has had a replacement screen as when this is done the rain sensor will require recalibrating to get it to function correctly.
