I believe the reason for the fire, is the pump continues to run after the ignition is switched off. They get hot and eventually catch fire/melt the wiring. I'm assuming the internal relay must stick? As I've tried to dis-connect the trigger wires and the pump continued to run. Only after disconnecting the main live/earth connection did the pump turn off. There appears to be no fuse/fusible link between battery and pump!!
