    Ford Fiesta 2005 - Does not start after a long crank Archived Message

    I was chatting to a Ford dealer mechanic the other day & he has a brand fine new Fiesta that occasionally would not start. He turned the key & it cranked for a fraction of a second then nothing. Repeated attempts made no difference.

    It turns out that Ford have released a download to tackle this problem. As is becoming all too common these days, even the simple starter circuit has been molested by computer-controlled technology. The ECU is interpreting something incorrectly & assuming that the motor has sparked up, when it hasn't. The ECU directly controls the engagement of the starter.

    Is this another example of the kind of CAN fault that is in discussion on the Frank Massey thread??
