As said by the others, that works with most if not all pre "I Drive" types.
With I-Drive, e.g. E60 5ser, the Car monitors the mileage & the braking...giving an approx due time for pad replacement, in addition to wear sensors
The number of pad changes [resets] is also stored. The procedure requires a capable Scan Tool to do it "properly"! But I'm sure there is another method as this system is in the States also...
