Having problems with this car. It failed the MOT on many items one of which was airbag light on. On diagnosing it with BMW ISTA it was flagging a fault for the "Satellite Sensor B Pillar Right" (SBSR) module internal fault (98D1) and "Front Airbag, right, firing circuit, short circuit" (98D3).
The test plan for the first fault was to replace the module with a new one and code/program it in to the vehicle.
New module duly ordered, one week later it arrived and I programmed it in today. I did get a fault for "System time fault" which when following the test plan was sorted with a suitable service routine.
The "Front Airbag firing circuit, short circuit fault" no longer returned which I was sort of hoping for :-)
All going well after a test drive we then re-tested the vehicle only for the airbag light to return during the test!
On further interrogation we now get what seems a duplicate/mirror of the previous faults but now on the left hand side module!
"Satellite Sensor B Pillar Left" (SBSL) module internal fault (9851) and "Front Airbag, left, firing circuit, short circuit" (9853).
This seems more than a coincidence that they must be related. Has anyone seen this before? Is there anyway to fix it without paying out over £300 for yet another module. I believe you can't fit used modules as the VIN is programmed into them.
I haven't yet tried to run the BMW ISTA programming option again to see if it offers anything else to try.
If anyone can suggest anything I would be interested to hear them.
Many thanks
Sean
