I have found the procedure to test the system
"With the ignition on check for 12 volts at fuse 129 if there isn't 12 volts at the fuse then the fault is an internal fuse box/GEM failure. If there is 12 volts then disconnect the wiper switch connector and bridge terminals pin 6 (black/green) and pin 3 (black/white) with the ignition on the wipers should run continuously on slow speed, if they do the switch is faulty.
If the wipers don't run then disconnect the wiper motor connector and check for 12 volts at pin 2 (white/green) of the connector with the ignition on (leave the wiper switch bridged). If there isn't 12 volts then the fuse box/GEM is faulty. If there is 12 volts then check pin 4 of the wiper connector (black) for continuity to earth, if this is OK then replace the wiper motor. If there is no earth then there is a break in the earth wire for the motor.
There are no relays for the wiper system it is controlled by the fuse box/GEM, this is the clicking you can hear. If the fuse box/GEM requires replacement then the new unit needs to be programmed to the car as it is a control module for various systems on the car."
I have managed to bridge the pins on switch connector and they do not run on the slow speed
Not going to get a chance to strip further today, so will re book and keep you posted
