Year of Manufacture *: 2012
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.4 petrol
The alternator warning light comes on.
The customer has not had the car long and the supplying dealer replaced the battery several times and she lost confidence in them. She took the car to a local garage who replaced the alternator (from ECP) several times before they gave up.
As I have the vehicle now. The alternator warning light comes on after about 20 seconds with a fault code of U0120 Lost comms with starter generator control module.
Generator charges in default mode at 14.1V if revved hard.
The alternator only has a single signal wire (violet), When disconnected from the alternator I get a pulse stream from the PCM on that wire. Continuity of the wire is tested good. Reconnecting it to the alternator makes no apparent difference to the signal.
I am not familiar with the smart charge system in use on this car, as it is single wire would it be LINbus?
My feeling is that as I am getting data from the PCM it is still an alternator fault. ECP are supplying a Delphi unit tomorrow. Personally I would have preferred a genuine unit.
Does anyone have any technical info on this system?
Shaun.
