2nd answer: short trips = NO!
The engine itself, is pretty good. NO major concerns from the internals, it's the drivers/driving style that's the issue.
Low mileage & short trips are the death knell for these:
It will constantly try to regen the DPF on short journeys, eventually over-filling the oil and either running on, or scoring the crank/cam bearings with thin oil.....
Software updates have apparently fixed the problem, but if it hasn't already had the update, then there's a chance the vehicle has already got damaged bearings.
However, if it's done at least 20,000+ miles and has full DEALER history, then it's worth the risk as long as she's getting rid in 3 years. (Warranty is up then).
