Thanks for the advice but ive tried that after the bulb was changed.
There was a shard of metal inbetween the live and earth of the bulb contact ( dont know how that got there but i can see a handfull of bulbs in the glove box!!)

I cant remember the fault code but its wording was along the lines " osr bulb electrical fault on circuit.
