Also when a design is shown to be poor, it can take a long time to rectify that poor design. meanwhile we have to explain to customers why a design flaw is going to cost them a lot of money. ie Peugeot 1600 HDI engine, with poor lubrication system design, and the catastrophic results from that often requiring a new engine.
Also with the Frank Massey article, how often would the customer admit that the vehicle has been remapped. My experience is almost never. Last time I suspected this with an Astra I did a 0-60 time on the back road, I was 1.5 seconds quicker than the published time.
