( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.2 6v BMD code

not getting frost warning beep when temp falls below 4 degrees and no temp reading in dash display.2 questions 1 where is sensor positioned and 2 is it connected via engine ecm because fuel consumption appears to have increased, and I haven't any wiring diagrams to refer too.
