The soleniods transfer the vacuum to engage and dis-engage the diff. when they are energised one will be open (to allow vacuum one way) and one will be closed. When power is cut the opposite happens i.e the open one closes and the closed one opens to allow vacuum to move the shaft in the other direction. If you get what I mean
The solenoids I have done in the past have failed/failing mechanically not electrically.
I fully understand the problem is they are Mitsubishi, So guaranteed to be reassuringly expensive
And this vehicle is a 1996 flavoured one and a skint customerIts not easy
