This old lady has a problem I have never seen before.
After battery re-connection you have one attempt to start the car. If it fails to start then the battery must be disconnected for several minutes and re-connected when you get one attempt again. The key lamp on the dash also flashes on subsequent start attempts.
This has the VAG Immo I system.
Fault codes, 01176 07-10 signal too low intermittent and 01177 65-10 engine control unit unauthorized. Are recorded.
The engine gives, 17978 Engine start blocked by immobiliser, (there are others that I doubt are relevant).
Immo has very little live data available.
Before start attempt Start permitted is recorded as 1, ECU responds is a 0 and Key transmits is 1.
After a start attempt the ECU responds flag changes to 1. This seems to me as if the immo is saying go but the light on the dash is still flashing.
I removed and cleaned the contacts on the ignition switch which were filthy, as I was wondering if the car was not powering up/down correctly.
The problem now is do I take a chance and fit/program a new immo? It could be the reader coil but that is part of the key barrel so that is more expensive than the immo unit itself.
Any ideas would be welcome.
