It's generally however the pump that fails. Audi sell a modified relay due to the original sticking causing the pump to run on. Cant remember exact location of fuse, think it's in the N/S box in plenum chamber.
It's actually quicker to get to the feed/earth for the motor under the O/S/F wheel arch than it is to check the fuse/relay. At least check the pump - if it's gone it will set you back about £1k + vat. As a rule you must also change the relay and if its blown, the fuse.
If the pump tests ok then you can start the strip down to get to the fuse and relay. I've also had the wire that activates the relay break. It takes the most stupid route through the engine bay.
