Well I have done similar in the past on an old P38 Range Rover, where the heater matrix 'O' rings were leaking, the official fix is to remove dash ( £1,200 labour quote from agent and a few pence for parts ).
The customer went for the un-official method and out came the hole saw cutter. You would never know once the trims were replaced
