I have just checked some data and its seems the
M50 AND M52 - Had the crank sensor on the front pulley.
M52TU AND M54 - Had the crank sensor on the rear of the crank. The M52TU and M54 are double vanos.
If you say you have double vanos on your donor engine , then I would say someone as fitted a M52TU cylinder head onto a M50 / M52 cylinder block maybe....????
