There was a modified chain kit with larger slippers introduced around 2005 to deal with the slack chain dropping off the crank sprocket due to lack of oil pressure to the hydraulic chain tensioner.
I haven't seen a later 12V engine circa 2006 pull this stunt yet - the modified slippers are supposed to stop this happening.
I have never witnessed one hole a piston yet either!
The BMD 1.2 is more prone to sticking valves, there is a software update running on this engine to attempt to alleviate the sticking valve issue which alters fuelling and idle speed.
