I am wanting to replace the front wheel arches/wings (Could answer either description) and steps on a 1986 T3 VW transporter. I am planning to remove the old panels at the panel edges by carefully removing the existing spot welds and replace with new panels rather than let in patches. What sort of weld do I need to use these days to keep the MOT chaps happy?

In the past I would have used MIG plug welds with a spacing corresponding to the original spot welds, but these days the MOT goalposts seem to move alarmingly quickly and I dont know to what extent the rules might have changed....
