Just need a bit of info on this one, normally i dont have to much trouble diagnosing these but this one is a bit different, if i unplug the smart charge connector then the alternator charges at 13.8v so i then went on to the usual checks i.e wiring to smart charge connector and i have gone all the way back to behind the dash board and all o.k i then got the scope out pin 3 has good ref voltage pin 2 has good square wave but pin 1 has flat line of 0.7v this is where i feel my problem lies, with the plug disconnected pin 3 then has 8v pin 2 has 5v and pin3 has good ref voltage, i the cut pin1 as this is the feedback wire to and scoped pin again as i thought if there was a problem in wiring i would now see a square wave on scope but again was flat line at 0.7v so my gut is telling me smart charge circuit in alternator is the problem is this correct as i dont want to waste time and money on customers car and as i have done a few of these with ecu issues where pins corrode but normally get more faults than just charge circuit.
Many Thanks
Carl
