that is correct on a modern auto,however lots of early variants have a drain bung on the tc which can be accessed through the bell housing,on how the oil actually gets there,the main shaft is not only hollow but generally has an inner shaft for " lock up" & the oil pump supplys the required pressure through the shaft & into the converter hth. keith
