I've a Renault grand Scenic 1.6 with no dash lights, no power steering or steering lock and now Ive lost the key. Nice huh.
I've taken the car to Renault to have a key programmed. The clip wont communicate with the power steering module, like its not there, and Renault's technician can't move forward to anything else as this problem is preventing them from doing so.
I've a Renault Scenic now which starts but has no dash display, power steering or steering lock.
First things first I have to get the power steering on line, and the steering lock if these two co inside so I can take the car back to have the clocks fixed as it is a common fault which was covered by watchdog and will be fixed for £100.
Ive taken the steering rack off for an examination. there is a main power in, black and red wire, which connects to the power steering ecu/module. A five wired plug, which comes from somewhere.
underneath this plug, there is two other plugs. These have wires running to components attached to the column, and the power motor. Finally there is 3 6mm wires, Red, black and beige running to the power motor, from the module/ecu.
What I have done so far is check the power in to the module which is good, with ignition on or off.
The three wires from the module to the motor do not give a live reading so I took the pump of, put a multi meter to the black and red wires on a continuity test and the meter is beeping, telling me that the pump is shorting out. I think the motor has gone and taken the module with it or the other way around.
Am I doing the right checks, and taking the right action???
I am getting another column for the car with ecu/module and components. Will the new module/ecu need programming to the car???
