The water valves are prone for failure a have changed lots on all bmw models, you could take valve off and supply it with a live and earth, you should see the shuttle valves move, a think the connector is 3 pin , one live and the other two are duty cycle from the climate control unit for the dual control for driver and passenger sides in the car.

Dont power it up with a power probe whilst connector is still on !
