This ranger came to us overheating and loosing coolant with occasional white smoke and no heater. We know that a few weeks ago it was overheated due to a damaged rad. we carried out a co test with a block testing fluid and that showed co present so we assumed a head gasket leak, but the owner is a farmer and had a similar problem on a modern tractor recently and it turned out to be a leaking EGR cooler so the cooler was easily tested on the ranger and sure enough it was leaking coolant straight into the cooler which would presumably get into the manifolds and cause the smoke.but we replaced the cooler which seems to have cured the smoke and overheating, but we still only have heat from the heater when engine revs high also the expansion tank keeps filling right up?(pressure cap on rad not tank).
We have removed and checked water pump impeller and fitted new genuine thermostat, doesn't seem to be normal head gasket leak symptoms to me but some sort of circulation problem maybe?
Any ideas gratefully received.
thanks
Graham.
