Dude: If our 1941 team was stranded in Hawai'i during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, and most of them volunteered for the Honolulu Police Dept under Martial Law, how did we ever field a football team in the Fall of 1942? Backfield coach Walt McPherson was among many west coast coaches who enlisted shortly thereafter in the U.S. Naval Reserve and were sent for 60 or 90-day Officers Candidate School at Annapolis in June of 1942 and afterwards were sent to Corpus Christi, Texas to train Naval pilots.
