I was part of National Service intake 52/21 and was attached to 24 battery for basic training before being posted to 40th Field Regiment stationed at Dortmund in Germany at the beginning of 1953.
My message really concerns the trial football match played against the regimental side when I found myself playing against Geoff Twentyman the Liverpool centre half. Being a Liverpool fan I couldn't believe my luck but I never really had the chance to speak to him apart from drawing and returning my kit to the sports store where he had been given the job of storeman.
