I am searching for a William Anderson and his family whose origins are in Maryland. On his marriage certificate in New York City in 1879 he states he came from Maryland, no other location specified, and that his parents were William Anderson and Maria Bates. On the 1900 census he states his birth as Feb. 1843. He was a sailor in the Union Navy discharged in 1865.

I can find no record so far of a marriage for his parents. I have no record of his siblings if any. His first child was named Martha, born 1880 in NYC.

Census data is inconclusive.
