I find that it is a rare job that will un-fire someone. Even if you somehow manage to regain your old job, the boss' feelings that allowed you to be fired remain. I think you'll always be "next" if any downturn comes along. Take the experience that you got from this last place and use it to find another job that's looking for someone with said experience. Open a new door and go through. [And don't badmouth the previous job during the interview or later while working. It never sounds good.]
