But, yeah, Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, Latin, Sanskrit, Tibetan, forms of Egyptian and some forms of Chinese can be written nicely with a reed. After I wrote the earlier post, I got to see Del Toro's 2001 ghost story _The Devil's Backbone_, where the young anti-hero was sketching with what looked like India ink and a reed pen. I guess ink can be made from oil lamp soot pretty efficiently. What works best for me is a sumi ink like Yasutomo or Chung Hwa. Crowley spoke of the "pen of art" as an essential tool of the mage.
