A lunar eclipse can only occur during a full moon when the Sun, the Earth and the Moon are in a straight line.
There have been lot of things said about eclipses being a bad time to do magick...but I can’t get a clear explanation as to why.
I hear people say it is not good to do magick when the moon is Void of Course... I relate the Moon’s Void of Course as the curtain being down during a play. So during the Void of Course the “set” is in “scene change” between Acts1 and 2 and you are neither in the influence of either sign that the moon is coming out of or going into.
I kind of like the thought of this empty clear path to aim down. It seems like a good time and place for a surprise attack or clear shot to get ahead..
So, I think the strange and rare alignment of the Sun, Moon and Earth may have similar unbalanced vibrations to the lack of vibration during a Void of Course Moon. I could be totally wrong to have such compulsion to break the “rules”...and I may change my mind at some later point...if I find anything that convinces me to refrain from magickal work during eclipses and Void of Course I’ll be certain to add to this post.
I have read myths like the one that says expecting mothers should not watch a lunar eclipse for fear of “adverse effects.” Also that they should not go out or do anything at that time. It is said that a dip in holy water is good for all to prevent bad impact from both lunar and solar eclipses. But why bad impact could occur is never stated.
Here are some more lunar eclipse info for hell of it...
Eclipses very often occur in threes, alternating lunar, solar and lunar;
the maximum time a lunar eclipse can last is 3 hours and 40 minutes;
the longest time the moon can stay in total eclipse is 1 hour 40 minutes;
lunar eclipses can happen up to 3 times a year;
lunar eclipses are visible over an entire hemisphere.
