Re: Rear weight
Boy, they must have had really strong counters back then!!!
Thank you Jesse for the clarification on the 150 counter weight history!
The first edition FC-150 narrow track sold 12-57, did not come with counter weights from the factory, these are easily recognized with the VIN plate on the drivers side, these had no counter weight during production, but a primitive casted counter weight was soon produced for them, these did not have the correct exhaust cut out or the PTO cut out in the casting of the counterweight, they were dealer installed. or sold over the counter. All mid year 57-early 58 narrow track had an improved casting counter weight that was factory installed.
Note! After mid year 1958 all wide tracks had a different shape and width, counter weights were installed in all of the wide track FC-150 trucks. These wide track counter weights, will not fit the narrow track frame.
My 57 150 narrow track has the weight and I believe it is not an option. I don't see the weight and balance on the front axle being any different narrow track to wide track and I believe the rear weight is different narrow to wide track. Anyone have more info on this ??
I understand that the narrow tracks (1957's) did not have the weight. It was put on the wide tracks to prevent nose overs. I do not know If it was retrofitted to the earlier models.
