DREAMING OF A COOL AUTUMN DAY by Gene Minix My mule doesn't mind at all Me stopping to rest 'neat the big oak tree. The rows are long in the summer sun. And I imagine he's bout as hot as me. The shade of this old oak feels good On this hot summer day. And I'm sitting here dreaming Of autumn and those leaves at play. Dreaming of that cool autumn time And leaves of red, yellow and brown. I can just imagine them As they playfully float down to the ground. I wipe the sweat from my face And say, "Let's go, Old Gray. There's still a lot of rows to plow On this hot summer day." He obeys my command And we move along the way. I'm sure he's dreaming, though, Like me, of a cool autumn day. © Copyright 2026, by Gene Minix. All rights reserved. |
