BACK THEN by Gene Minix School was out for the summer And what grand and exciting days. We chased butterflies across the meadows. We ran and we played. We climbed the old oak tree. We lay on a bed of soft green grass. And gazing up into the sky, We watched soft clouds float past. We rode bicycles down the lane. The sun shown so bright. We collected stray dogs And counted the stars at night. We didn't have a care In those days of long ago. We marched to a different drum, The "real world" we didn't know. We didn't worry about tomorrow. It was our day in the sun. It seemed the day moved slow And we dreamed of being twenty-one. The summer days they were Long and they were slow to pass. Now they move so very fast. They move so very fast. © Copyright 2011, by Gene Minix. All rights reserved. |
