I WAS TEN AND SHE WAS NINE by Gene Minix Like little lanterns in the night The lighting bugs shined their lights Across the yard 'neath the pines And over by the ivy vines. With the going down of the sun We chased them in fun. She and I, what a time. I was ten and she was nine. I still remember those days And the Georgia nights we played. Chasing lighting bugs back then Until our Moms called us in. And we said good-night, Don't let the bedbugs bite. Tomorrow I'll see you again And we both trotted in. Sixty years ago but, sometimes at night When I turn out the light. Again I recall those times. When I was ten and she was nine Summertime and life was fine When I was ten and she was mine. And I wonder where she might be And if she ever thinks of me? Yes,I wonder where she might be And if she ever thinks of me? And if she ever recalls the time When I was ten and she was nine? .© Copyright 2017, by Gene Minix. All rights reserved. |
