Tip #1 Pray for God's guidance before any study you do. Ask Him to open your mind to the truth and make His words a part of your character. Tip #2 Always start with Bible verses that are relatively easy to understand and whose meaning is fairly clear or obvious. Tip #3 Let the Bible interpret and prove itself. Do not look for what you want to prove but instead seek what God's word teaches. Tip #4 Ask yourself not only what the verses you are reading say but also what they do not say. Tip #5 Research the original meaning of Biblical words and phrases in their original language (Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek). Tip #6 Remember that at times the Bible uses symbols, parables, metaphors, poetry, personification, allegories, idioms, hyperbole, and other literary devices to teach. Tip #7 Personal opinions, no matter how strongly they are held, do not constitute divine truth (2 Peter 1:20). Beliefs should be based on facts not feelings. |
