Henry Caruso lifetime horseback dog trainer passed away this past weekend. Henry was well known throughout the bird dog community. HE LEARNED HIS TRADE FROM HIS FATHER WHO also was a good trainer.Henry was as good with a horse as he was with a dog.Ask anyone who knew Henry and you would get the same answer " Henry was a great guy"

Tom, Yes Henry Caruso was a great guy. My early field trial years ( fifty plus years ago ) was spent competing against Henry. I won quite a lot in those days but Henry won a ton. The thing about Henry that I and alot of other folks came to realize about Henry was his service to his country in the Vietnam war. I don't know the exact details of his tour in Vietnam but there could be a novel or movie made of his service to his country. After all he had been through, his attitude when I first encountered him , you would never know he had ever expierienced any trauma of that aweful war. When Henry was running dogs at a trial, he would be singing or humming a song as if he didn't have a care in the world, God bless the memory of Henry Caruso. And a big shout out to all my bird dog friends that served in the Vietnam war which include Jim Heckert Ralph Fitzmaurice Harold Ray Mike Groy Tom Vanechek Jim Sorrells and any one else I cant think of at this time. Honoring all of you and the memory of Henry Caruso.
