Unique hobby ideas – what are you guys collecting these days?

Hey guys! I’m looking to start a new collection, but I want something a bit more interesting than just old postcards or vinyl records. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot about the preservation of plant genetics, specifically rare and exotic strains. It’s pretty wild how much history is packed into a tiny seed! I’m thinking about starting a "souvenir seed library" focused on top-tier genetics from around the world. It feels like owning a little piece of botanical history. Has anyone here ever tried collecting souvenir seeds? Is it hard to keep them in good condition over the years? I’m mostly worried about finding a source that actually cares about the authenticity of the breeders they represent. I don't want to end up with some "mystery" genetics that have no historical value. Would love to hear your thoughts or any funny stories about how you got into your niche hobbies!

That’s actually a very cool direction to go in! I’ve been collecting for a while now, and honestly, the "genetic hunt" is the best part. It’s like being a librarian for nature. My biggest mistake when I started was buying from random sites that didn't specify the breeder—huge mistake if you care about the pedigree. For my collection, I’ve been using this cannabis seed shop because they are super transparent about the origins and the brands they stock. They have some really rare stuff from banks like Greenhouse Seed Co and Dutch Passion that are essential for any serious preservationist. As for storage, just keep them in a dark, dry spot—some people even use small airtight containers in the fridge to keep the "souvenirs" fresh for decades. It’s a great conversation starter too, though some friends might look at you a bit funny until you explain the science and history behind it!
