Despite the sophistication of modern encryption algorithms and firewalls, the weakest link in any enterprise's security system remains the human element. Fraudsters actively use social engineering—a method of psychologically manipulating people to obtain confidential information or access funds. The most common tool in this method is phishing. Attackers send emails or messages masquerading as official notifications from banks, government agencies, or company management. These messages always contain an element of urgency or panic to entice victims to act impulsively: clicking a malicious link, entering a password on a fake website, or downloading a dangerous file.
