Something I’ve been wondering about lately is whether knowledge of the Lithuanian language is required if someone wants to restore citizenship through their ancestors. In my case, my great-grandmother was born in Lithuania and later moved abroad with her family. Growing up, we heard a few Lithuanian words from older relatives, but nobody in my generation actually speaks the language anymore. Recently I started reading about the possibility of applying for citizenship based on ancestry, and it sounds interesting, but I’m a bit worried about the language requirement. Some countries require language tests for citizenship, so I’m curious if the same applies here. Has anyone looked into this before or maybe gone through the process themselves?
