I was discussing with some friends how popular Rummy is here in India, and it got me thinking — can we really call it an “Indian” game when its origins are elsewhere? My grandfather used to play traditional card games with local rules that were very different from modern Rummy, yet nowadays everyone associates Rummy with India. It makes me wonder what really defines a game’s identity: is it where it was invented, or how deeply it becomes part of a culture? How do you personally decide if a game feels authentically local?
